Xikar Xi3 Cigar Cutter,
I have owned a Xikar cutter in he past and lost it. I figured it was time to purchase a nicer unit this time around. Still he same quality cutting blades but a nicer design with the redwood. Xikar makes the worlds best cigar cutters, hands down. And at the outstanding price of $52 including shipping, that’s $27 cheaper than the $79 retail price. Don’t think about buying a Xikar, just buy it. You will not be sorry.

Current production not up to par,
The Xikar cutters were originally made in Germany and were exceptional. Current production from Taiwan leaves much to be desired. After purchase found the machining of the center hole is not accurate (Not a perfect circle, hills and valleys on edge) and one blade binds slightly (does not open all the way). I examined several others and found poor manufacturing to greater or lesser degree. Suggest you buy from a merchant which will accept returns if you do not examine prior to purchase.

Very functional, well designed, so-so fit and finish,
The cutter is well designed, works well, and is attractive, but closer inspection shows some fit-and-finish issues with the wood scales. One is perfect, but the other doesn’t fit quite right and has a flaw in the sawing of the groove that attaches it to the cutter. These are purely cosmetic issues, and will almost certainly never be noticed by anybody else while I use it, but this is not a cheap cutter. Also, on a variant (redwood handle) designed specifically to be attractive, fit and finish issues are less forgivable. It’s also worth noting that the blades aren’t nearly as sharp as Xikar suggests; on mine, one of the blades has visible nicks in the edge (it still cuts well, though).
This is my first Xikar cutter, so I have no idea whether issues like these are common. If I ever need another cutter, I’d very likely u buy another Xikar–the mechanism is wonderful. I’ll just probably stick with their plastic or metal-handled cutters. Their woodwork just doesn’t have my confidence.
